    While the cool autumn breeze is a refreshing break from the dog days of summer, this time of year is shortly followed by Jack Frost himself. A cold winter is just around the corner, which could mean bad news for your most valuable asset: your building. Just like you should take your vehicle to the mechanic before this season to winterize it, prep your 100 foot steel building.     5 Steps to Winterizing Your Steel Building

    1. Start Early

    A lot of upkeep projects are inconvenient and frustrating, seemingly never coming at the right time. Preventive maintenance, however, is the only way to avoid a mid-winter surprise and expense. Before having to deal with ice and feet of snow, spend some time this fall to make sure your building is ready for the winter. Walk the building this time of year and create a maintenance to-do list to help prioritize what needs to be done.

    2. Check Your Roof

    Considering snow and ice, your roof has to be in great condition going into winter. Check your roof and its interior for any problem areas, ensuring it’s well-supported and properly sealed. Clear off any debris from the roof to inspect the area to its entirety, identifying any spots that may have been damaged with moisture.

    3. Cleaning and General Maintenance

    While prepping your building for winter, make it a point to focus on the little details. Don’t forget tasks like cleaning the gutters and downspouts to make sure your building is in its best position to stay functional throughout the winter. Also, identify any other factors that may need to be addressed before winter—such as pruning a low-hanging branch or removing a dead tree that may put your building at risk.

    4. Inspect Your Insulation and Barrier

    One of the few downsides to a steel building is the condensation that can build up on them, but there is thankfully a solution to that issue. Vaper barriers regulate the temperature of the wall, preventing moisture from building up. Different insulation will benefit your 100 foot steel building in different ways.
